Summer 2017

Summer 2017 is here at last. Here at Norfolk Dialysis we are expecting another busy season. However we do still have some vacancies for holiday dialysis if you are a kidney patient on dialysis and you want a holiday. Norfolk has some of the best beaches in the country. The huge expanses of sand and dunes mean you are guaranteed a nice quiet spot. Or you can head to one of the seaside towns like Hunstanton if you want things a bit busier. There are countless great places to eat all along the coast, or a bit further inland. The Gin Trap Inn at Ringstead is just outside Hunstanton, and has been getting some great reviews lately.

Norfolk also has some wonderful, hidden harbours where you can take a boat trip out to see the seals. Or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous you can walk from Cley Next The Sea to Blakeney Point and see them up close (though not too close obviously) like I did in January when the beach was full of pups.

Summer’s nearly here!

Here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis we are getting ready for another busy season. We already have lots of bookings right up to September so if you are thinking of a holiday here and you are on dialysis you need to be thinking about booking up soon! Here are a couple of photos to show that Norfolk is beautiful even when it’s cloudy! I’ve also attached a couple of our latest publicity shots for the clinic itself.

Wild glamping at Thornham

Have a look at the above website if you are looking for something different for you and the family this Summer in North Norfolk. Thornham beach is stunning, the pubs are excellent, and there is now probably the best fish and chips in Norfolk – Erik’s – at Drove Orchard. Here at Norfolk Dialysis we are only a fifteen minute drive away, so if you’re looking for holiday dialysis as well as a bit of adventure for all the family, you can’t do much better than here at Norfolk Dialysis!

Christmas is coming…

This Summer has been the busiest yet here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis. It’s been lovely to meet a lot of new clients and, as always, equally nice to see those returning for, in some cases, their fifth year in a row! The weather has been a bit hit and miss this year, but I think everybody has enjoyed their holiday regardless. We hope we have made you all feel welcome, and relaxed. We know how difficult it can sometimes be to take the plunge, and have your dialysis at a strange unit with staff you don’t know. But it is important for everybody to be able to have a holiday, and to be able to enjoy their holiday without worrying about whether the machine will be ready, or needling problems etc. Please feel free to ring for a bit of a chat if you want to know any more about us, our clinic, or how to go about booking a holiday. Out of season we will not be in the clinic unless we have clients booked for holiday dialysis, so please leave a message if we are not here, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. And don’t forget Norfolk Holiday Dialysis is fully funded by the NHS so your clinic will not have to fund your holiday. Some clinics are still having difficulty understanding this, so again, please feel free to ring us for clarification. We will be more than willing to speak to your clinic to explain this if needed.

We are expecting to be busy again this Christmas, so if you are thinking of going away for the festivities, or are visiting family in the area please think about booking soon! We will be closed for two weeks in November – from Tuesday the 3rd until Friday the 20th (even we need a holiday sometimes!) – but otherwise we are open all year.

Have a look at our website where you will find details of the clinic, as well as places to stay, eat and drink, and things to do in the local area for all the family.

And don’t forget, just because you are on dialysis doesn’t mean you can’t go on holiday!

Michelle and Danny.

Focus on Thornham – Norfolk Dialysis

Thornham is a village on the North Norfolk Coast which is an absolute jewell for holidaymakers. And what’s more, it is only 15 minutes from us here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis.

There are 3 pubs – The Lifeboat, The Orange Tree and The Chequers, and all three of them are worth a visit. The Lifeboat is a traditional smugglers coaching inn a short walk from the village centre, the marshes and the picturesque harbour. The Orange Tree is a gastro pub, and The Old Coach House does great pizza and pasta. There is also the Thornham Deli which serves food 9-5 as well as providing fantastic local produce. They even do picnic hampers if you fancy a day on the beach.

And talking of beaches, Thornham has a stunning one. It is a bit of a walk along the sea wall, about 20 minutes, but it is well worth it! There are no worries about being crowded out because there are acres of room amongst the dunes. You can also visit Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve while you’re there. But if you can’t manage the walk don’t worry because just up the road at Holme-Next-The-Sea, or Old Hunstanton, are equally lovely beaches a short walk from their respective car parks.

Just opened in Thornham you will find one of the best fish and chip shops in the area (if not the whole of Norfolk!) just outside the village at Drove Orchards, where they also have a great farm shop.

Thornham is only a 5 minute drive from Hunstanton with its prom, sea-life centre, shops, supermarkets and arcades. You can walk under the cliffs, swim in the sea or the Oasis swimming centre. In the other direction the coast road leads to Titchwell Bird reserve, 2 more great pubs, and on to the Brancasters – yet more great places to eat! Just inland from Thornham is Ringstead where you can walk over Ringstead Downs, or at Courtyard Farm there are several miles of footpaths through their organically farmed land with its 80 acres of wildflower meadows.

As to accommodation, Thornham has plenty of options.  Drove Orchard has its own glamping site with luxury tents/ cabins. The Lifeboat has plenty of excellent rooms, and there are a wealth of holiday cottages.

If you haven’t thoought about a holiday to Norfolk before, then you really are missing out on a wonderful experience in this quiet corner of the country. There is something for all the family here, and Thornham makes a great base, and it is only a short drive from us here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis.

I have listed some websites below but, as always, please free to contact us here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis for a chat about bookings or any other queries you may have.

Summer 2015 Norfolk Holiday Dialysis

Due to a couple of cancellations we have some spaces available in July for holiday dialysis here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis. Please ring for details.

Also we still have some spaces for later in the Summer and Autumn, so why don’t you think about a holiday here in beautiful Norfolk?

If you have not been for dialysis away from home before we are the perfect choice. We are a small, friendly but very professional unit. We both have many years experience in dialysis and have never had any problems with needling fistulas here at Norfolk Holiday Dialysis in the five years we have been open. We have dialysed many people for their first time away from home here, and they always came back for more!

We’d be delighted to speak to you if you are at all worried about holiday dialysis, and discuss our unit and the process of dialysis here with us. Everybody deserves a holiday and it is such a shame that some people don’t feel confident to dialyse away from home and so miss out on a holiday. You wouldn’t be committed in any way if you just want to have a chat with us about it, in fact we’d be pleased to hear from you.
